After consulting two websites (the first not having the flight I wanted and the second being way too damn expensive) I called the student travel majig. Agent. Yeah that one. I bought my ticket yesterday.
So my ticket was only slightly more expensive than Crumpet's (which is remarkable considering how far apart we bought them), and we're on the same flights!
So after we bought the ticket (mum and I), we decided it was time to go travel shopping.
I bought two lightweight Delsey suitcases (hardcover, purple, expandable), a Sandisk MP3 player (4 gig, purple) and a cute grey paisley dress from Hottopic (the store was also playing some of the most hideous music of all time). More practically, we got a samsonite security waist belt, a Consierge brand adapter and plug set, and while we were out, I got a great haircut from Gene Juarez, which would sound like me bragging if I wasn't just as surprised that that was an option. This may sound like marketing, but I'm recording this partially so that as we go on, if I complain that my MP3 player is bust and my luggage is awesome (or vice-versa) you'll have something to go on, should you ever try to travel.
so far, the MP3 player is fantastic. It's got a colour screen and is easy to understand, and at less than $50 (with warantee!) it's way cheaper than even the smallest of ipods on the market right now. But I got the 4gig, so after uploading every song I own and some I'm surprised I have (which may be a smaller library than some's,) it's taken up most of the storage. But there's a miniSD card slot, so I could buy another and easily double or quadrouple the space, theoretically.
The Suitcases look pretty great, too. They're bulky (the biggest one on the market looked like I could curl up and sleep in it, so I opted for the next size down and the smaller one) but lightweight for their size. Four wheels make them easy to transport, and the lady at Macy's was incredibly eager to help and give useful travel advice (though it was more useful for a shorter trip, it's still good to keep in mind).
The gent at the Macy's counter suggested we bop over to Paris. Apparently it's a short ferry ride. We might have to reconsider not going there after all, Crumpet! But only on a weekend, my hair stylist said Ireland was fantastic, with to-die-for Fish and Chips.
That's about all I've got for now, but thought you all might like to know that we're still prepping for this trip, and we're still psyched!
